Sean Carmody

Sean Carmody has spent his career advising a range of financial services firms on key strategic and financial matters, including strategic planning, mergers & acquisitions, capital raising, activist defense and investor communications. He has worked with banks, financial technology players, securities and brokerage firms, asset and wealth managers and specialty finance companies.

Since the financial crisis, Mr. Carmody has advised FIS on its $43 billion merger with Worldpay, Royal Bank of Canada on its $5.4 billion acquisition of City National and its $3.5 billion sale of RBC Bank (USA) to PNC, CIBC on its $5.0 billion acquisition of PrivateBancorp and its $210 million acquisition of Atlantic Trust, Jefferies on its merger with Leucadia, OneWest on the $2.5 billion sale of mortgage servicing rights to Ocwen, CapitalSource on its $2.3 billion merger with PacWest, Hanmi on its $1.6 billion withdrawn proposal to acquire BBCN, Whitney on its $1.5 billion sale to Hancock, North Island on its $625 million investment in Virtu in connection with Virtu’s $1.4 billion acquisition of KCG, Western Union on its $750 million sale of Speedpay to ACI and its $275 million acquisition of Custom House, People’s United on its $402 million acquisition of Suffolk, Credit Karma on its $175 million Series D capital raise, and Capital One on the sale of its wealth management businesses, among others. Earlier in his career, Mr. Carmody participated in a number of landmark transactions, including J.P. Morgan Chase’s $1.9 billion acquisition of Washington Mutual and the related $11.5 billion common equity raise, its $1.5 billion acquisition of Bear Stearns and the dissolution of its Paymentech merchant processing joint venture with First Data; and E*TRADE’s $2.55 billion recapitalization, among others.

Prior to joining Centerview, Mr. Carmody spent 14 years at J.P. Morgan, where he most recently was Managing Director and Head of Financial Institutions Strategic Advisory.

Mr. Carmody holds an AB from Harvard University and an MBA from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University.
