George Zippel

George Zippel is a retired corporate executive and full-time community volunteer.

Over the course of 25 years, George held various general management, operations and financial roles with the General Electric Company. He moved to Lynchburg in 1999 when he joined GE Financial as President of First Colony Life Insurance Company and became President and CEO of Genworth Financial's Protection business as part of its initial public offering in 2004. After Genworth, George served as President and CEO of Scottish Re Group Ltd, a life reinsurer based in Hamilton, Bermuda.

George has served on the boards of directors of the American Council of Life Insurers, the Genworth Foundation, The Academy Center of the Arts , The United Way of Central Virginia, Jubilee Family Development Center, Amazement Square, Camp Kum-ba-Yah and STEP with Links.

George graduated from Hamilton College with a B.A. in Economics.
