Rustem Makhammadiev

Rustem Makhammadiev has extensive work experience in the field of finance and economics. Rustem is currently serving as the Director of the Financial Stability Department at the Central Bank of Uzbekistan since October 2021. Prior to this role, they worked as an Advisor to the Executive Director at the International Monetary Fund from March 2019 to September 2021. In this role, they provided support and assistance to the Executive Director and the Alternate Executive Director in various tasks such as preparing briefing materials and representing the Executive Director at board meetings.

Before joining the International Monetary Fund, Rustem held several positions at the Central Bank of Uzbekistan. Rustem served as the Head of the Inflation Division in the Monetary Policy Department from April 2018 to March 2019, where they led a team responsible for inflation forecasting and analysis. Prior to that, they were the Head of the Inflation Modelling and Forecasting Unit from December 2017 to April 2018, where they managed the inflation forecasting team and contributed to the design of surveys on inflation expectations.

Rustem also has experience as a Senior Economist in the Monetary Policy Department and the Payment Systems Department of the Central Bank of Uzbekistan. In these roles, they analyzed macroeconomic and financial indicators, contributed to monetary policy reports, and drafted regulations for non-cash settlements. Rustem has also served as the Deputy Head of the Press Service, where they drafted press releases and managed content on the bank's website, and as the Lead Economist in the Payment Systems Department, where they collected and analyzed data on payment and settlement systems.

Rustem Makhammadiev completed their Bachelor's degree in Finance, General from Tashkent Financial Institute, where they studied from 2006 to 2010. Rustem subsequently pursued a Master of Business Administration (MBA) with a focus on Finance, General from the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology. Rustem attended the institute from 2015 to 2017. In addition, Rustem obtained the IELTS Academic 8 certification from IELTS Official in October 2022.
