Kurt Smith

Kurt Smith is an accomplished IT professional with extensive experience in healthcare and telecommunications. Currently serving as the Assistant Dean for Healthcare IT and Executive Director of Medical and Clinical Applications at Central Michigan University since August 2015, Kurt Smith oversees the planning and execution of information technology initiatives that align with the long-term objectives of CMU’s College of Medicine and associated health entities. Previous roles include HIPAA Security Officer and Associate Director of Applications & Health Technology at CMU, as well as Director of Telecommunications at Michigan Technological University. As the Owner and IT Consultant for Next Century Technologies, Kurt Smith provided consulting services to financial and healthcare clients after the company's transition in 2009. Kurt's early career includes positions as a Senior Telecommunications Engineer and Graduate Research Assistant at Michigan Technological University, as well as a Database Programmer/Analyst at IBM. Kurt Smith holds a PhD candidacy in Electrical Engineering from Michigan Technological University, complemented by a Bachelor’s degree in the same field.
