Dr. Seun Sowemimo has extensive work experience in the field of bariatric surgery and general surgery. Seun began their career at St. Mary's Hospital as a General and Laparoscopic Surgeon from 2006 to 2009. In 2009, they joined CentraState Healthcare System as a Staff Physician, specializing in General and Bariatric Surgery. Dr. Sowemimo also served as the Medical Director of the Bariatric Surgery Program at CentraState. In the same year, they became the Medical Director at Prime Surgicare. In 2010, they joined Central Jersey Bariatrics as an M.D. and Partner. In 2011, they joined Raritan Bay Medical Center as a Staff Physician and Bariatric Surgeon. Dr. Sowemimo's career highlights their expertise and leadership in the field of bariatric surgery.
Seun Sowemimo, MD, FACS, FASMBS has a strong educational background in medicine and surgery. Seun began their education at Kings College Lagos from 1982 to 1988. Seun then attended the University of Lagos from 1988 to 1995, where they earned their MBBS degree in medicine. Dr. Sowemimo continued their education at Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons from 2000 to 2005, completing a General Surgical Internship & Residency, and earning their M.D. degree. Seun further specialized in advanced laparoscopy, minimally invasive, robotic, and bariatric surgery through a Fellowship in Minimally Invasive and Bariatric Surgery at Yale University School of Medicine from 2005 to 2006. Dr. Sowemimo continued to pursue professional development and obtained their Fellowship of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (FASMBS) in 2015. Recently, from 2023 to 2025, they attended Cornell University Graduate School, where they completed an EMBA/MS program in healthcare leadership.
