Massimiliano Paganelli has a diverse work experience in the field of pediatric hepatology and cell therapy. Massimiliano started their career as an intern in Pediatric Hepatology at the University of Naples Federico II in 2005. Massimiliano then became a resident in Pediatrics at the University of Rome "La Sapienza" from 2005 to 2010. In 2009, they completed their Ph.D. in Pediatric Hepatology and Cell Therapy at the Université catholique de Louvain, specializing in the development of an in vitro model to study HBV infection.

In 2010, Paganelli worked as a pediatrician at the Clinicques Universitaires Saint-Luc. Massimiliano later joined the CHU Sainte-Justine Research Centre in 2012, where they served as a fellow in Pediatric Gastroenterology and later as a pediatric hepatologist in the Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition and Pediatric Liver Transplantation Program. Massimiliano'swork focused on cholestasis, liver transplantation, and viral hepatitis.

In 2014, Paganelli became an Associate Professor of Pediatrics at the Université de Montréal. In 2015, they became the head of the Liver Tissue Engineering and Cell Therapy Lab at the CHU Sainte-Justine Research Centre, where they conduct research on stem cells to study and treat liver disease.

Additionally, in 2019, Paganelli co-founded Morphocell Technologies Inc. and currently holds the position of Chief Executive Officer.

Massimiliano Paganelli earned a Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) degree in Medicine from Sapienza Università di Roma in 2004. Massimiliano then went on to obtain the certification of "Abilitazione alla professione di Medico Chirurgo" from Sapienza Università di Roma in the same year. In 2009, they obtained the "Autorisation d'exercice de la pratique de la médecine en Belgique" from SPF Santé Publique. From 2009 to 2012, they pursued a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in Pediatric Hepatology from Université catholique de Louvain. In 2010, they obtained the "Specialista in Pediatria" certification from Sapienza Università di Roma. Massimiliano also holds additional certifications including "Spécialiste en Pédiatrie" obtained in 2011 from SPF Santé Publique / Ordre belge des Médecins and "C-certified investigator (Maître d’expérience)" obtained in the same year from Federation of Laboratory Animal Science Associations (FELASA).
