Mary Jane Dykeman is the Interim Vice President, Chief Legal and Risk Officer at CAMH. In this role, she is responsible for the oversight and provision of all legal services, risk management and security services at CAMH. Mary Jane and her team provide practical advice on clinical, strategic and policy issues and corporate operations to support CAMH’s Board of Trustees, leadership, physicians and researchers.
CAMH is supported by a legal department that addresses CAMH’s legal needs, including litigation before the Consent and Capacity Board, Ontario Review Board, Ontario’s Coroner’s Office, Human Rights Tribunal and all levels of court; as well as on corporate-commercial and health research matters.
Mary Jane is a longstanding health and data lawyer, and joins CAMH from her role as managing partner at INQ Law. She founded and ran the Osgoode Professional Development mental health certificate program, and since 2004, has taught its Health Law LLM mental health law course (in past years, with CAMH’s Michele Warner). She is an Osgoode Hall Law School grad, in addition to holding an Honours B.A. (Bioethics/French) from Mount Allison University; she taught the inaugural mental health law course for Queen’s University. Mary Jane is Deputy Chair of the Canadian Blood Services Research Ethics Board, past chair of the Alzheimer Society of Toronto, and a member of the advisory committee and data governance committees of T-CAIREM, the University of Toronto Temerty Centre for AI Research in Education and Medicine. She was also instrumental in the development of Ontario’s health privacy legislation.
