Emyr James

Emyr James has a diverse work experience spanning over several years. Emyr has held various roles in different companies.

At the Centre for Genomic Regulation (CRG), Emyr served as the Head of IT, responsible for overseeing HPC storage and compute at two sites. Emyr started this role in October 2020.

Prior to that, Emyr was the Head of Scientific IT at CRG, where they managed HPC storage and compute. Emyr held this role from March 2019 to October 2020.

Emyr worked at the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute, where they served as the Principal DevOps Engineer for Human Genetics and Informatics. Emyr was responsible for planning, installing, and configuring a HPC cluster in Uganda and recruiting staff to administer the cluster. Emyr held this position from September 2014 to February 2019. Additionally, at the same company, they were the Principal Systems Administrator - HPC. This role involved administering and supporting main compute clusters. Emyr held this position from November 2013 to November 2014.

Emyr also worked at the University of Sussex as a Linux SysAdmin for the experimental particle physics group. Emyr looked after a computing cluster connected to the CERN grid for processing LHC data. Emyr held this position from November 2010 to October 2013.

At Soundmouse, Emyr worked as a C++ Developer, developing cross-platform applications for audio data processing and recognition. Emyr worked there from July 2010 to November 2010.

Emyr worked at OpenBet as a Senior Developer/Mentor and a Technical Support Manager at different times. As a Senior Developer/Mentor, they integrated address lookup functionality into the backend and worked on the Telebet system. As a Technical Support Manager, they set up a support department and managed a team of 6. Emyr worked at OpenBet from 1999 to 2004.

Before that, Emyr worked at Virgin Media as an Internet Technical Support representative, troubleshooting connection problems and addressing customer queries. Emyr held this position from January 1998 to June 1999.

Emyr's early work experience includes a role as a Research Assistant at Cardiff University, where they conducted research and wrote simulation software for a supercomputer. Emyr held this position from July 1994 to December 1997.

Emyr James completed their BSc in Theoretical and Computational Physics at Cardiff University from 1991 to 1994. Emyr then pursued an MSc in Complexity Science with a focus on Electronics and Computer Science at the University of Southampton from 2006 to 2007.
