Ian Methley has extensive work experience in the field of mechanical engineering, with a specialization in variable valve actuation (VVA) systems and their application to internal combustion engines. Ian began their career at Rover Group in 1991, where they played a key role in the application of the VVC valvetrain system to the Rover K-series engine. This involved various responsibilities such as concept design, system development, problem-solving, production design, manufacturing process development, supplier development, and initial build quality monitoring. In 1997, Methley joined Mechadyne International Limited, a technology company specializing in VVA. Ian held several positions at Mechadyne, starting as a Project Engineer, and later serving as a Technical Specialist responsible for the development of innovative VVA systems and their application to customer engines. In 2012, Methley became the Chief Engineer at Mechadyne, a position they held until 2021. In 2021, they joined Ceres as the Chief Engineer - SOEL Systems.
Ian Methley attended Tiffin School from 1981 to 1987. Following this, they pursued a Bachelor of Engineering (BEng) degree in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Surrey from 1987 to 1991. Ian furthered their education by obtaining a Master of Science (MSc) degree in Valvetrain Research from the University of Oxford, where they studied from 2002 to 2004.
