Roberto Margutti

Roberto Margutti has a diverse work experience across various roles in the mining industry. Roberto started their career in 1992 as part of the Italian military force, the Carabinieri Corps. Afterward, they worked as an instructor and guide for rock climbing, white water kayaking, and rafting.

In 2000, Margutti transitioned into the field of geology and conducted scientific geological mountaineering expeditions in South Patagonia. Roberto also conducted mineralogy and geochemistry research during this time.

Margutti then worked as a drilling assistant and environmental geologist consultant before becoming a drilling coordinator and field geologist for Methodo Perforazioni Srl. In 2003, they became a quarry manager and safety coordinator for Gypsum Industries Limited, responsible for national gypsum quarrying sites and safety coordination.

From 2005 to 2017, Margutti held multiple roles at Saint-Gobain Italia, including Mining Manager and EHS Director for gypsum and insulation activities, and Exploration, Mining & Recycling Technical Director. Roberto was responsible for managing strategic gypsum mining and recycling operations in Italy and ensuring compliance with safety regulations.

Starting in 2019, Margutti joined Western Mining And Minerals Inc. as the Mineral Business Unit Manager for the United States. In this role, they focused on professional mining, mineral strategy, people development, and continuous improvement.

Most recently, Margutti has been working at CertainTeed since 2017. Roberto initially served as the Mineral Resources Manager for the Eastern United States. Currently, they hold the position of Director of Mining Operations, North America, overseeing the strategic gypsum mining operations in multiple states and developing mining strategies aligned with safety, quality, and cost optimization.

Roberto Margutti obtained a Ph.D in Geology and Earth Science from the Università di Pavia, specializing in the field of Environmental and Mining Geology, from the years 2006 to 2009. Prior to this, from 1996 to 2001, they also completed a BSc/MSc degree in Geology from the same institution, with a focus on Geochemistry and Mineral Resources. Additionally, in 2009, they obtained a certification as a Protective and Preventive Services Competent Person under the safety regulations for Italy. This certification was granted by the National association.
