Matthijs Berends

Medical Epidemiologist / Microbiologist at Certe

Matthijs Berends began their career in 2014 as a Medical Epidemiologist, Medical Data Scientist, and Data Analyst at Certe Foundation. In 2017, they joined University Medical Center Groningen as a Post-doctoral Researcher and PhD Student. As a PhD Student, their supervisor was Prof Dr Alex W. Friedrich, with Dr Corinna Glasner and Dr Gunnar Andriesse as co-supervisors. Their research focused on regional microbial epidemiology in the Dutch-German cross-border region, with a primary focus on data analysis and development of new analysis methods (AMR for R, https://msberends).

Matthijs Berends obtained their Lean Six Sigma Green Belt certification from EXIN management consultants in 2015. Matthijs then went on to earn their (post-)MSc in Clinical Epidemiology from the University of Groningen between 2017 and 2020. In 2019, they began taking courses in Advanced Statistics & Data Visualization at the Carl von Ossietzky University of Oldenburg. Matthijs is currently pursuing their PhD in Medical Microbiology and Microbial Epidemiology at the University of Groningen, which they began in 2017 and is expected to complete in 2021. Prior to this, they had studied Life Science & Technology at Medical Biology.
