Hilka Birns

Hilka Birns is an experienced aviation journalist currently working at ch-aviation since September 2020. Prior to this role, Hilka served as Cape Town Editor for Now Media (Pty) Ltd from January 2006 to January 2014, contributing to various publications and establishing a presence in Cape Town. Hilka has also worked as a Southern African Correspondent for Flight International from 1995 to 2008, and as Managing Editor for Travel Industry Review Southern Africa from 2001 to 2004. Additional experience includes serving as Johannesburg Editor for Travel Trade Gazette Southern Africa, Journalist & Sub-editor for SA Press Association during a pivotal time in South Africa’s history, and as a Journalist at SABC TV. Hilka's career began as a TV News Reporter at SWABC, and prior experience includes directing at Sepia Visual Arts in the UK. Hilka holds a degree in Journalism & Media Studies from Rhodes University and a digital marketing qualification from the University of Cape Town.
