The Champaign County Forest Preserve District is a local, property tax-supported government agency charged with the stewardship of seven forest preserves covering almost 4,000 acres in Champaign County, Illinois. The Forest Preserve District, which covers all but seven sections of Champaign County, was established by referendum in 1935. Due to the Depression and World War II, however, the first preserve was not opened until 1948.

We conserve, preserve and restore natural areas.  We provide cultural, historical and environmental opportunities. We provide compatible outdoor recreation experiences.

The Operations Team at Champaign County Forest Preserves is responsible for maintaining and improving the physical infrastructure and natural landscapes of the preserves. This includes tasks such as equipment maintenance and repair, habitat restoration, trail construction and upkeep, and ensuring facilities are safe and welcoming for visitors. The team also assists with logistical planning for recreational and educational events hosted within the preserves.
