Catarina Abreu

Clinical Research Coordinator at Champalimaud Foundation

Catarina Abreu currently serves as a Clinical Research Coordinator at the Champalimaud Foundation, having held the position since July 2023. Prior to this role, Catarina worked as a Postdoctoral Researcher at the 3B´s Research Group from July 2020 to March 2023, focusing on the development of in vitro biomimetic models and diagnostic devices for cancer diagnosis. From January 2017 to December 2019, Catarina was a PhD student at Swansea University, where the research centered on creating a biosensor for non-invasive and quantitative selection of embryos during IVF cycles and pre-clinical validation, also collaborating on projects addressing ovarian cancer and neurodegenerative diseases while being a PhD student at the International Iberian Nanotechnology Laboratory. Catarina's research journey began with a Master Thesis at INL in 2016, focusing on a microfluidic platform for bladder cancer diagnosis. Catarina holds a PhD in Bioengineering and Biomedical Engineering from Swansea University and a Master's degree in Biological Engineering from Instituto Superior Técnico.
