Matthias Haury has over 25 years of experience in various leadership positions in scientific research institutions and organizations. Matthias is currently serving as the Acting Executive Director and COO of the Chan Zuckerberg Biohub Network's Imaging Institute. Prior to this, they held the same role in the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative. From 2013 to 2023, Haury served as the Chief Operating Officer of the Max Planck Florida Institute for Neuroscience. Matthias also served as the Head of Science Operations at COST from 2010 to 2013. Haury has held multiple positions at EMBL, including Coordinating Manager of Advanced Training from 2006 to 2010. Matthias began their career as the Chief Technology Officer and Director of IT Services at the Instituto Gulbenkian de Ciencia from 1998 to 2006. Prior to that, they were the Head of the Flowcytometry Facility at the Institut Pasteur from 1995 to 1998. Throughout their career, Haury has demonstrated expertise in strategic planning, management of scientific infrastructures and technology, fundraising, grants, procurement, and international relations.
Matthias Haury completed their undergraduate studies in Biology/Biological Sciences at The University of Freiburg from 1983 to 1989. Matthias then pursued Graduate Studies in Cell/Cellular and Molecular Biology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham from 1989 to 1990. Haury obtained their PhD in Immunology - Biology from Pierre and Marie Curie University between 1990 and 1993. Lastly, they undertook a postdoctoral position in Developmental Biology at the University of California, San Francisco from 1994 to 1995.
