Kim Stoddard

Facilities Manager at Charles Stewart Mott Foundation

Every day provides a different challenge, and that’s one of the things Kim Stoddard loves about her job as facilities manager for the Mott Foundation. She oversees management of the Foundation’s historical 16-story headquarters, the adjacent Commerce Center and other properties in Flint.

The former director of facilities for Baker College, she managed the day-to-day operations of the main campus, as well as two branch campuses. She also oversaw several major construction projects, including a $3 million renovation of one of the dormitories in Flint.

While facilities management was not the career she envisioned when she graduated from the University of Michigan–Flint with a bachelor’s degree in communications, her ability to work with and share information with a variety of people led to a position as the college’s Energy Manager.

“They needed someone with communications skills, not technical knowledge,” said Stoddard. As Energy Manager, she worked across all departments to promote energy conservation. While working with building services engineers, she developed an understanding of HVAC systems, water metering, and mechanical, structural and electrical systems, which led to her promotion as Baker’s Director of Facilities in 2016.
