Susan Matthis Johnson

Susan Matthis Johnson is an experienced freelance writer and educator with a robust background in journalism and creative writing. Currently, Susan contributes to the Charleston Gazette-Mail as a freelance writer and columnist for the Nicholas Chronicle, where Susan writes "My Side of the Mountain." Previously, Susan served as a mentor for the PBS NewsHour Student Reporting Labs and taught English and broadcast journalism for over 25 years at Nicholas County Schools, earning recognition as West Virginia High School Journalism Teacher of the Year in 2005. Susan holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and Teacher Education from Emory & Henry University.
