Jennifer Dawson

Research Associate, Guideline Developer at CHEO Research Institute

Jennifer Dawson has a diverse work experience spanning various fields and roles. Jennifer started their career as an Aquatics Director at the City of North Bay's Tourism and Leisure Services in 2000. Jennifer then worked as a Laboratory Technician at the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology at Queen's University in 2002.

In 2002, Jennifer also became a Teaching Assistant and Tutor at the same department, further developing their teaching skills. Jennifer continued their teaching career as a Teaching Assistant at the Department of Chemistry at the University of Ottawa from 2005 to 2008.

Jennifer's interest in research led their to work as a Research Associate at the Ottawa Hospital Research Institute from 2016 to 2019. In this role, they were involved in various research activities, including grant writing, manuscript preparation, and supervision and training of students. Jennifer also gained certifications in Good Clinical Practice and Health Canada Division 5 - Drugs For Clinical Trials Involving Human Subjects.

During this time, Jennifer was also engaged in projects related to health content improvement on Wikipedia. As a Cochrane Global Ageing Wikipedian, they collaborated with Cochrane Global Ageing and Wikipedia to enhance the health information available on the platform.

Jennifer's passion for teaching persisted, as they took up the role of a Teaching Demonstrator at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Ottawa, from 2006 to 2009. Jennifer then served as a Consultant at Queen's University, acting as a Guest Lecturer and Wikipedia Moderator for 1st-year medical students. Jennifer utilized Wikipedia to teach critical appraisal and Evidence-Based Medicine.

In 2017, Jennifer joined Cochrane (formerly known as The Cochrane Collaboration) as a Consultant for the Cochrane Wikipedia Initiative. Jennifer'sexpertise in evidence-based medicine and critical appraisal played a crucial role in this project.

Jennifer's most recent role is as a Research Associate and Guideline Developer at the CHEO Research Institute since December 2018.

Jennifer Dawson obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Life Science, Honours from Queen's University in 2002. Jennifer then went on to pursue a Master of Science degree in Pharmacology and Toxicology at the same institution from 2002 to 2004. Jennifer furthered their education by completing a PhD in Cellular and Molecular Medicine at the University of Ottawa from 2005 to 2011.
