Child Life Specialist Volunteer at CHEO

Justin Nguyen is an undergraduate research assistant at CHEO Research Institute since September 2024, focusing on the development of a zebrafish larvae pharmacological model for pyridoxine-dependent epilepsy. Concurrently, Justin serves as a Child Life Specialist Volunteer and Play Program Volunteer at CHEO, enhancing the experiences of oncology, hematology, and dialysis out-patients. At Howard Hughes Medical Institute, Justin is involved as a SEA-PHAGES Student Researcher, studying the Mycobacterium smegmatis bacteriophage, Togepi. Previously, Justin contributed to the Ottawa Hospital Research Institute as a committee member, reviewing articles on gay men’s health, and volunteered at The Ottawa Hospital in various roles supporting long-term and neurological patients. Justin has experience in customer service, having worked as a bartender and host at Mandarin Restaurant Franchise Corporation. Currently pursuing an Honours Bachelor of Science in Translational and Molecular Medicine at the University of Ottawa, Justin also holds a prior degree in Biomedical Sciences from the same institution.
