Derek Nelson

Derek Nelson has over 20 years of experience in risk management and safety. Derek is currently the Director of Risk Management at Cherokee County, a position they have held since October 2022. Prior to this, Derek worked at the City of Alpharetta for 17 years as the Risk and Safety Administrator. Derek also has experience as a Safety Manager at Robert Bowden Inc. and as a Loss Control Consultant at Kendall Risk Management. In addition, Derek started their career as a Safety Intern in the Large Engine Division at Briggs & Stratton.

Derek Nelson attended Georgia Southern University from 1996 to 2000, where they obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Manufacturing with a specialization in Industrial Management.
