Earlier in their career, Mike served as Chief of Staff for Senator Chuck Hagel, leading a staff of 50 and serving as the senator's spokesperson. Mike also held the position of Communications Director for Senator Hagel, where they engaged with Capitol Hill reporters daily and handled various written communications for the senator.
Prior to their time in politics, Mike gained grassroots campaign experience as a Grassroots Field Organizer for Norm Coleman for Senate in 2002. Additionally, they worked as the Press Secretary and Press Assistant for Chuck Hagel for Senate, where they managed media relations and supported the Communications Director.
