Alan Wehler has a diverse professional background, beginning with their role as a Park Ranger with the National Park Service in 2006. Alan then served as a Special Projects Associate with the Civil War Trust in 2007, where they secured over $6.8 million in grant funding and conducted historical research. In 2008, they were an Assistant Project Manager with Armed Forces Services Corporation. From 2012 to 2013, they held various roles including Spirits Guide with New Columbia Distillers/Green Hat Gin, Researcher (Intern) with the Partnership for Global Security, National Security Unit Researcher (Intern Volunteer) with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), and Homeland Security Researcher with Raytheon. Alan then joined The Chertoff Group in 2013, where they held the roles of Associate, Senior Associate, and Director. In their role as Director, they supported the Geopolitical and Regulatory Risk practice and advised and educated clients on domestic and international data privacy and security policy, cloud computing policy, security program design, geopolitical risk management, cybersecurity, and the international security environment. Additionally, they served as the primary editor and contributor to a policy whitepaper on encryption and “extraordinary access”.
Alan Wehler obtained a B.A. in International Relations and Government from William & Mary in 2007, after completing their studies from 1999 to 2003 at Gettysburg High School. In 2005, they also earned a B.A. in International Relations and European Security from the Institut für Europäische Studieren. Finally, in 2013, they received an M.A. in Security Policy Studies, Weapons of Mass Destruction, and Transnational Security from The George Washington University.
