James Avery

James Avery currently serves as the Assistant Principal at Chesapeake Public Schools since July 2022. Prior to this role, James held the position of Site Director at YELLOW, a nonprofit organization founded by Pharrell Williams, from June 2021 to July 2022, focusing on transforming education for youth. James' experience in educational leadership includes positions as Assistant Principal at Virginia Beach City Public Schools and Portsmouth Public Schools, as well as an English Teacher at Western Branch High School. James began a career in management with McDonald's Corporation from 2007 to 2014. Academic credentials include a Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership from Nova Southeastern University and a Master of Education in Educational Leadership from Regent University, along with a Bachelor of Arts in English/Language Arts Teacher Education from Old Dominion University.
