Susan Lee

Chief of Strategy & Policy at Chicago CRED

In her role as Chief of Strategy and Policy, Susan Lee will work to institutionalize a comprehensive violence reduction strategy, enhance the capacity and create a national alliance of violence reduction practitioners, work on police reform, and serve as a Senior Advisor to Mayor Lori Lightfoot.

Susan most recently served as Mayor Lightfoot’s Deputy Mayor of Public Safety, where she oversaw the operations of Chicago Police Department, Chicago Fire Department, and Office of Emergency Management – among others. Before that, she was here with us at CRED. Prior to joining CRED for the first time, Susan led the Urban Peace Institute in LA. She is the co-author of a 2007 report that became the blueprint for LA to adopt a new approach to violence.

Susan has more than 25 years of experience in policy development and implementation, non-profit management, strategic planning, fundraising, and community engagement. She holds a BS in Economics from UC Berkeley as well as a JD from Boalt Hall, School of Law, UC Berkeley.
