Rodger Cooley

Rodger Cooley is a seasoned professional in urban agriculture and food policy, serving as the Executive Director of the Chicago Food Policy Action Council since its founding in 2001, where efforts have focused on enhancing access to healthy food and promoting local food systems in Chicago. Cooley also holds a position as an Adjunct Professor in Landscape Architecture at the Illinois Institute of Technology, teaching on sustainable urban food systems, and has previously led the International Network for Urban Agriculture, establishing a global network dedicated to best practices in this field. Prior experience includes roles at Heifer International, where project management and policy advocacy were key responsibilities, supported by a Master’s degree in Sustainability and Land Use Planning from the University of Illinois Chicago and a Bachelor’s degree in Studio Art from Oberlin College.

Chicago Food Policy Action Council

The Chicago Food Policy Action Council (CFPAC) facilitates and informs the development of responsible policies that improve access for Chicago residents to culturally appropriate, nutritionally sound and affordable food that is grown using environmentally sustainable practices. We are currently working on: -The adoption and implementation of the Good Food Purchasing Policy at the City of Chicago, Chicago Sister Agencies as well within Cook County to increase opportunities for smaller, local, sustainable, humane and fair producers and processors. -Improving access to farm land for urban and peri-urban farmers. -Updating regulations and licenses for urban farmers.
