Susan Brown has worked with children, adolescents and families since beginning her career as a professional counselor. After completing her bachelor’s degree in psychology from Kent State University, Brown went on to obtain her master’s degree in counseling and human development from Walsh University. It was during her master’s internship with the Community Corrections Facility at Multi-County Juvenile Attention System (MCJAS) that she found profound enjoyment specializing in trauma and working with youth on their journey to break cycles of addiction and abuse and finding their own paths.
Following her internship, Brown went on to work at the Residential Treatment Center of Multi-County for four and a half years. During that time, she had the experience of collaborating with professionals across the country in a year-long learning program through The National Child Traumatic Stress Network and the University of Cincinnati.
Following her time at MCJAS, Brown went on to spend four years working with Pathway Caring for Children (PCFC) as a school-based counselor in the Minerva Local School District. After her time with PCFC, Brown then expanded her interest into working with the adult population, particularly those with addictions, co-occurring disorders and court involvement through Summit Psychological Associates in Akron. Although there was enjoyment in working with the adults and navigating the challenges of the adult criminal system, it was with children and families that Brown knew she belonged.
In January of 2018, Brown began with Child & Adolescent Behavioral Health at the Belden Office location as a clinical supervisor. Since that time, Brown has also taken on the electronic health records training for the agency as well as recently being named the new masters’ internship program coordinator.
Brown serves at Faith Kitchen monthly, volunteers as a substitute Sunday School Teacher and volunteers for as many opportunities as she can in her children’s lives, while being a sports mom and enjoying every moment with them. Spending time with friends and family, finding new experiences and being outside as often as possible (except for in the winter) are a few of the enjoyments that she finds in life.
