Ben Wilson, MS LMFT

Assistant Director, Behavioral Health Services at ChildNet Youth and Family Services

Ben Wilson, MS LMFT has over 20 years of experience in the field of mental health. Ben started their career as a Senior Behavior Therapy Aide, providing in-home behavior therapy for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Ben then worked as a Marriage and Family Therapy Trainee at Intercommunity Counseling Center and Salvation Army Transitional Living Center.

In 2005, Ben became a Marriage and Family Therapist Intern at Breakthru Counseling Center and later worked as an Outpatient and Intake Clinician at ChildNet Behavioral Health Services. In this role, they provided therapy, case management, and treatment planning for a diverse community.

Ben also gained experience as a Day Rehabilitation Lead Clinician at ChildNet Behavioral Health Services, where they provided therapy, clinical case management, and coordination of services in a residential facility for teens with legal and probation involvement.

From 2011 to 2013, Ben worked as an RCBT Therapist at Duke University, Center for Spirituality, Theology, and Health. Ben provided therapy services for a Duke University study and contributed to the development of treatment manuals and published articles.

In 2015, Ben worked part-time at Cal Humanities as a Facilitator for Veterans' Literature Discussion Group, promoting healing and mutual support among veterans through literary discussions.

From 2009 to 2016, Ben served as the Site Director at FOCUS Naval Base Ventura County, a program under UCLA Semel Institute for Neuroscience and Human Behavior. Ben provided oversight and management for the program.

Currently, Ben holds the position of Assistant Director, Behavioral Health Services at ChildNet Youth and Family Services. In this role, they support and provides guidance to clinicians and clinical supervisors, collaborates on program development, and occasionally provides direct client services.

Throughout their career, Ben has demonstrated expertise in family therapy models, such as FOCUS family therapy, and is proficient in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TFCBT).

Ben Wilson, MS LMFT completed their Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Psychology at Biola University in 1999. Ben went on to obtain their Master of Science (MS) in Marriage and Family Therapy/Counseling from Fuller Theological Seminary in 2004.

In addition to their formal education, Ben Wilson has acquired several certifications. In 2011, they became a Certified Religious Cognitive Behavior Therapist through Duke University. Later, in 2011, they obtained the certification of Certified FOCUS Individual Family Resilience Trainer from the UCLA Nathanson Family Resilience Center. In 2015, they became a Certified FOCUS-C Couples' Resilience Trainer through the same institution.

Continuing their professional development, Ben Wilson gained the certification of Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy: Certificate of Proficiency from the California Institute for Behavioral Health Solutions in 2018. The same year, they also became a FOCUS Trainer of Trainers through the UCLA Nathanson Family Resilience Center.
