Hortense Lucas is an experienced professional in early childhood development and education. Currently serving as a Fidelity Coach at Guilford Child Development since August 2005, Hortense provides training and technical assistance to early care providers. In addition, Hortense has been a Human Resources Development Instructor at Guilford Technical Community College since 2000, delivering HRD classes on a contractual basis. Previously, Hortense held a board position with the Autism Society of North Carolina from July 2013 to May 2015 and served as a Social Work Supervisor at Rockingham County Headstart from 2003 to 2005, overseeing case managers and conducting educational workshops for parents. Hortense holds a Master of Arts in Clinical Counseling from Liberty University, a Master of Science in Adult and Continuing Education and Teaching, and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, both from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University.

Over the years, our focus has grown to include comprehensive, family-centered programs promote educational excellence, health and well being, community engagement, job readiness and life-skills training. Children & Families First is proud to serve over 6,000 low-income families each year through these programs: Head Start and Early Head Start, Regional Child Care Resources & Referral, Nurse-Family Partnership, Learning Together Family Literacy, The Family Success Center, and the High Point Opportunity Center
