Douglas Bassett has a diverse work experience in the nonprofit sector. Douglas currently holds the position of Vice President, Global Programs and Operations at Children International since 2022. Before that, they worked as a Consultant/Independent Contractor, providing organizational strategy, program design, and fundraising consultancy to nonprofit organizations. Douglas also served as the interim leader of the Community Partner Department at Children's HopeChest and facilitated the development of a global partner and child sponsorship strategy. Prior to their self-employment, Douglas worked at Compassion International for a significant period. There, they held various roles such as Principal, Program Development; Senior Director, Partnership; Regional Director, Central America and the Caribbean; and Senior Director, Program Development Division. Douglas was responsible for program strategy, capacity building of partner organizations, program design, monitoring and evaluation, and disaster response. Douglas also worked as a Director at the Office of the Senior Vice President and as a Regional Director for South America at Compassion International. In addition to their work at Compassion International, Douglas served as a Board Member at Accord Network. Earlier in their career, they were involved with World Relief, where they held the positions of Country Director and Program Administrator. In these roles, Douglas managed various development and relief projects, including housing construction and community facilities for earthquake victims.
Douglas Bassett obtained their Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Economics from Wheaton College during the period of 1981 to 1985. Douglas pursued further education and completed their Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.) from IESE Business School between 1989 and 1991. Douglas then continued their academic journey at Capella University, where they earned their Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Human Services from 2007 to 2012.
