M. Scott Lieberenz

M. Scott Lieberenz, CPA, joined CHLA in 2016 and serves as CHLA’s senior vice president and chief financial officer. In this role, Scott oversees the functions of accounting and financial reporting, financial planning and budgeting, treasury, revenue cycle, decision support, payer contracting, supply chain management, health information management and research institute administration.

Previous to joining CHLA, Scott served as senior vice president of financial services for Vidant Health, a $1.6 billion, not-for-profit hospital system serving patients in eastern North Carolina comprising eight hospitals and numerous physician practices, home health, hospice, wellness centers and other health care services. There he led several critical initiatives in support of the health system, including implementation of ICD-10, reduction of the system’s exposure to investment risk and achieving $32 million in savings through supply chain initiatives, as well as additional decreases in the cost of care.

Prior to his role at Vidant Health, Scott served as chief financial officer for Valley Baptist Health System in Harlingen, Texas (now a part of Tenet Health System), where he improved fiscal operations while supporting high-quality patient care, as well as led the negotiation team through a major joint venture transaction. Before this, Scott spent a good portion of his career at PricewaterhouseCoopers, LLP, dedicated to health care finance. Ultimately, Scott was a leader in the Dallas health care audit practice, providing leadership direction for audit planning, budget development, staffing, transition approaches, issue resolution and strategic reporting.

Scott has a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Texas at Austin and a master’s degree in accounting from Texas Tech University along with a certificate of health organization management. He is a certified public accountant and has a Six Sigma green belt certification. Additionally, he is a member of the Healthcare Financial Management Association.
