Allison Abplanalp has a strong background in event strategy and operations, philanthropic events, and special events. Allison started their career at Kansas Action for Children in 2001 as the Director of Public Relations, where they worked until 2010. Allison then joined Children's Mercy Kansas City, where they held various roles including Special Events Manager from 2010 to 2012, Director of Special Events from 2012 to 2013, Director of Philanthropic Events from 2013 to 2022, and currently serves as the Director of Event Strategy and Operations, a role they have held since June 2022. In their current position, they provide centralized leadership for the hospital's room reservation process and utilization of the Children's Mercy Research Institute Conference Center, while also consulting and assisting with hospital-wide events. Allison's work at Children's Mercy has focused on raising funds for hospital priorities, expanding the network of supporters, and adapting fundraising event formats to changes in the economy, community, media trends, and sponsor engagement.
