Gregor MacDonald has several years of work experience in various roles. Gregor began their career as a Sales Consultant at Noel Leeming Group in 2004 and worked there until 2007. In 2007, they started working at Teletech as a Customer Service Representative for the Xtra Broadband Project. Later that year, they joined Orcon as a Senior Service Delivery Manager, where they were responsible for measuring and improving service levels, forging partnerships, and provisioning complex data services. Gregor worked at Orcon until 2012 when they moved to Chorus NZ Limited as a Senior Service Delivery Manager.

Gregor MacDonald attended Queen Margaret University from 1995 to 1999, where they earned a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Communication. Prior to that, they attended Mackie Academy from 1988 to 1994, but no degree or field of study was specified. In terms of additional certifications, Gregor obtained a Lean Six Sigma - Yellow Belt certification from the University of Auckland - Business School in June 2013. Gregor also obtained PRINCE2 Practitioner and PRINCE2 Foundation certifications from Project Laneways in November 2012 and September 2012, respectively.
