Nan Powell-Davies

Board Member at Christian Aid

Rev Nan Powell-Davies became a co-opted member of Christian Aid’s National Advisory Committee for Wales in 2017, after a long history of supporting Christian Aid.

Since 1990 Nan has worked in a variety of roles within the Presbyterian Church of Wales, including Youth Development Officer and Prison Chaplain at HMP Altcourse, Liverpool.

She gained her BTh theological training at Aberystwyth United Theological College and was ordained in 2000 alongside her husband Huw.

Today, Nan is the Assistant Director of Ministries for the Presbyterian Church of Wales where she has leadership responsibility in eight presbyteries helping the elders to think and plan strategically for the future. She also equips the Children and Youth Service of the Church in their missional roles throughout Wales and as part of her role as Assistant Director she is privileged to co-lead the work of the Ecumenical and World-Wide Department. A particular recent highlight was seeing the Church raise £260,000 for Christian Aid’s work in the Philippines in 2018 as part of their quinquennial Christian Aid appeal.

Nan has been involved in social justice and international development work all her life – from collecting door to door in Christian Aid Week as a school girl and undertaking many sponsored walks, to volunteering with Lesotho Save the Children. In 2010 she visited Christian Aid’s work in Kenya as part of a publicity team for Christian Aid Week. She has also traveled widely as part of the Council for World Mission family and worked extensively in facilitating connections with the Presbyterian Church of India, the Presbyterian Church in Singapore and the Presbyterian Church of Taiwan.

Nan and her husband live in Mold in North Wales and together they lead a Welsh-language pastorate.

Nan has a passion for fostering a spirit of working and sharing with other denominations and for equipping the local church, and particularly young people and young adults to serve and mobilise change locally and globally.
