Akbar Kara is a seasoned professional with extensive experience in network management and technology leadership. They served as the Network Director and Network Design Manager at Columbia University from 2003 to 2005, and worked as a Network Manager at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital from 1998 to 2000. From 2006 to 2020, Akbar held the positions of CTO and President & CEO at LEARN: Lonestar Education and Research Network. Additionally, they contributed as a Consultant/Interim Director at MD Anderson Cancer Center from 2005 to 2006. Currently, Akbar is a Principal Researcher in Advanced Architectures at Ciena, beginning in 2023.
