Burak Tekcan is a Photonic Design Engineer at Ciena since January 2023, with extensive experience in the field of electrical and electronics engineering. Burak served as a Graduate Research and Teaching Assistant at the University of Waterloo from January 2017 to December 2022, focusing on III-V nanowire array single photon avalanche diodes (SPADs) and achieving over 90% absorption through optimized nanostructure design. Previous roles include contributions at the University of California, Davis, where Burak investigated electro-optical emulation in Lithium Niobate waveguides, and at Bilkent University, where Burak developed GaN-based UV photodetectors. Burak’s early career includes project engineering for ZnO-Si photodiodes and internships in software development for vehicle tracking systems and high-frequency analysis in radar systems. Educational qualifications include a Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Waterloo and a Master's in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from Bilkent University.
