Phil Southwell

Phil has over forty years experience in the power industry, initially in planning and design and later in various senior executive roles covering strategy, regulation, sustainability, planning and external affairs. He also served as a Board Member of the Australian Power Institute for several years.

His connection with CIGRE covers more than 20 years, initially as a Member, then Australian Panel Convenor and then as Study Committee Chair of C1. By invitation, he has continued involvement in SC C1 as an expert member.

In recognition of his work with CIGRE, Phil has received a number of awards including an Honorary Award in 2014 and a Fellow Award in 2016. As a member of the CIGRE Technical Committee, Phil was a major contributor to the strategic publication, “Electricity Supply systems of the Future” and the Convenor of the group that produced a second document on “Energy Efficiency”.

Phil is a past CIGRE Australia Director and now represents CIGRE Australia on the global Administrative Council and Steering Committee.
