Dr. Matthew Jelavic

Dr. Matthew Jelavic, C.Mgr., P.Eng., CPEM®, has a diverse work experience spanning various organizations and roles. Dr. Matthew started their career as a Professor at Durham College in 2005 and continues to hold this position. In 2004, they founded Strategy One Consulting Inc. and served as its President. From 2008 to 2013, they held the role of Vice-President Academic at CIM | Chartered Managers Canada before becoming the Chief Executive Officer, a position they still hold. Dr. Matthew also served as the President of CIM | Chartered Managers Canada from 2013 to 2018.

In addition to their work at CIM, Dr. Jelavic has taken on various leadership positions in professional and educational organizations. Dr. Matthew served as the President of the Canadian Society of Professional Engineers from 2016 to 2019 and as a Director of the Ontario Society of Professional Engineers from 2015 to 2019. Dr. Matthew also held the role of Director at CPHR Canada from 2015 to 2021 and at the Ontario Professional Engineers Foundation for Education from 2017 to 2019.

Dr. Jelavic has also been involved in academia. Dr. Matthew has held positions at Ontario Tech University since 2010, including Adjunct Associate Professor, Graduate Faculty Member, and Adjunct Assistant Professor. Dr. Matthew has also been an Associate Faculty Member at Royal Roads University from 2005 to 2013.

Furthermore, they have actively participated in professional development and community engagement. Dr. Matthew was a Member of the Membership and Professional Development Board at The Institution of Engineering and Technology from 2013 to 2016 and a Member of the Communities Committee - Americas from 2011 to 2014.

Dr. Matthew Jelavic, C.Mgr., P.Eng., CPEM®, has a diverse and extensive education history. Dr. Matthew obtained their Bachelor of Laws (Honours) from the University of Essex from 2020 to 2024. Prior to that, they pursued their research and higher education at Grenoble Ecole de Management, earning a Research Fellow degree in Management Science from 2004 to 2009. During the same period, they also completed a Doctorate of Business Administration in Management Science and a Diploma of Research in the same field.

Dr. Jelavic holds a Master of Engineering in Management Sciences (Management of Technology) from the University of Waterloo, which they earned from 1999 to 2003. Dr. Matthew also has a Bachelor of Arts in Industrial Technology from Bemidji State University, completed between 1996 and 1999.

Additionally, Dr. Jelavic possesses an Advanced Diploma in Mechanical Engineering Technology from Seneca Polytechnic, obtained from 1990 to 1994.

In addition to their extensive educational background, Dr. Jelavic holds numerous certifications. Dr. Matthew is a European Engineer (EUR ING) certified by FEANI since 2022 and a Student Member of The Law Society since 2020. Dr. Matthew obtained their Certified Internal Cross-Cultural Trainer certification from Hofstede Insights in 2019 and became a Certified Manager (CM) through the Institute of Certified Professional Managers in the same year. Furthermore, they obtained the Certified Professional in Engineering Management (CPEM) certification from the American Society for Engineering Management in 2019.

Other certifications earned by Dr. Jelavic include Chartered Manager and Chartered Fellow (CMgr FCMI) from the Chartered Management Institute in 2018, Fellow (FIET) from the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) in 2017, Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) from the Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO) in 2014, Membership in Engineering (MCGI) from City & Guilds in 2013, Fellow (FRSA) from The RSA in 2013, Chartered Engineer (CEng) from the Engineering Council in 2008, and Chartered Engineer (CEng MIET) from the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) in 2008. Dr. Matthew also holds a Diploma in Operational Research from the Canadian Operational Research Society in 2007.

Dr. Jelavic became a Chartered Manager (C.Mgr.) from CIM | Chartered Managers Canada in 2003, and prior to that, they obtained a Graduateship in Engineering (GCGI) from City & Guilds in 2002. Dr. Matthew also holds the Certified Engineering Technologist (C.E.T.) certification from the Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists (OACETT), obtained in 1996.
