Owen Calvert

Owen Calvert has a diverse and extensive work experience spanning several organizations and roles. Owen has held positions at International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center (CIMMYT), DAI, FAO, ICF International, USPB, Fintrac Inc, World Food Programme, and has worked as a Consultant in various capacities.

At CIMMYT, Owen serves as the Chief of Party - Team Lead, overseeing a $21 million agricultural mechanization project. Owen is responsible for promoting private sector engagement and capacity building of small scale workshops.

As a Technical Lead at DAI, they managed a $25 million USAID funded project in South Sudan, providing program management, administration, and high-level representation. Owen also provided technical leadership and supervision to key personnel.

During their time as a Project Manager at FAO, Owen managed a $27 million USAID funded project in South Sudan, focusing on supporting agriculture and building the resilience of rural livelihoods. Owen oversaw project implementation and guided the activities through subcontracts and short-term assignments.

At ICF International, Owen held the role of Project Director, where they had overall responsibility for large-scale population baseline studies conducted in nine countries for USAID/Food for Peace. These studies assessed food security, nutrition, and economic status in various communities.

As a Consultant at USPB, Owen provided input into the US potato industry's food aid initiative strategy and supported food aid programs using dehydrated products.

During their tenure as the CoP at Fintrac Inc, Owen managed a team to conduct market impact analysis for USAID/FFP in 16 countries. Owen also oversaw the development of methodologies for these studies.

At FAO, Owen served as the Technical Manager of the food security unit, where they were responsible for producing monthly bulletins, conducting assessments, and producing technical reports on various sectoral and regional issues related to agriculture and livestock.

Owen also worked as a Consultant at the World Food Programme, where they contributed to initiatives addressing long-term food security, strengthened partnerships, monitored food security variables, and provided assistance and training on livelihood assessments and emergency needs assessments.

Overall, Owen Calvert has demonstrated expertise in program management, technical leadership, project administration, and capacity building in the field of agriculture and food security.

Owen Calvert obtained a Master of Science (MSc) degree in Agricultural Economics from the University of Reading in the years 1991 to 1992.
