Altamiro da Costa Pereira is the Coordinator of CINTESIS. Lead researcher at TL1 – Clinical & Health Services Research, Altamiro da Costa Pereira is a full professor and director of the Department of Community Medicine, Health Information and Decision-Making (MEDCIDS) at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Porto (FMUP).

He graduated in Medicine from FMUP in 1983, having started his academic career as a Trainee Assistant in Epidemiology and Public Health in 1985, and attended the specialization in Pediatrics at Hospital de São João (Porto). He also participated in several postgraduate courses at the Universities of Johns Hopkins (USA), McGill (Canada) and Nijmegen (Netherlands) and completed his Doctoral Studies at Ninewells Hospital and Medical School – University of Dundee (Scotland) in 1993. .

Altamiro da Costa Pereira has developed scientific activity in national and foreign institutions, in the areas of epidemiology, medical informatics and clinical research, publishing more than 300 scientific works. He has participated in more than 50 panels and committees to evaluate national and international grants, projects and scientific research teams in the areas of life sciences, health and technologies, and has been regularly invited by the European Commission as an evaluator since 1999.

Recently, he was re-elected member of the General Council of the University of Porto.
