The company was founded in June 2005 as a joint venture between Quality Chemicals Limited (QCL), a private limited company incorporated in Uganda for the importation and distribution of pharmaceutical drugs, and Cipla Ltd, a leading Indian pharmaceutical company. The joint venture then attracted Capitalworks and TLG Capital Investment each with a vision to have Cipla Quality Chemical Industries Limited a center of pharmaceutical manufacturing excellence in the region. CiplaQCIL is designed to meet the world’s most stringent pharmaceutical regulatory standards and is pre-qualified by the World Health Organization (WHO) as an additional contract manufacturing site for Cipla Ltd’s products.
