Michael Dingkuhn

Head of research unit

Michael Dingkuhn is a scientist with extensive experience in rice research. They served as Program Leader at the Africa Rice Center from 1990 to 1998 and have been the Head of a research unit at CIRAD since 1998, now seconded to the International Rice Research Institute as a Senior Scientist since 2011. At IRRI, they lead the GRiSP Global Rice Phenotyping Network and focus on discovering traits for yield potential and climate adaptation. Alongside their scientific work, Michael has been self-employed as a painter since 1972, showcasing their art in various exhibitions. Michael earned a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Plant Physiology from the University of Hamburg from 1978 to 1985.
