Emily Mesev, PhD has a diverse work experience in various research and writing roles. Emily began their career as a Preclinical Research Fellow at the University of Minnesota Medical School in 2013, where they focused on analyzing oncolytic viral therapy combined with chemotherapeutics for non-small cell lung cancer. Emily also shadowed medical professionals in the field of oncology.

In 2014, they worked as a Translational Research Fellow at Mayo Clinic, specializing in hematoloty/oncology.

Emily then joined Grinnell College Biology Department in 2013 as a Biology Teaching Assistant.

From 2014 to 2015, Emily worked as a Web Content Developer and Writing Consultant at Grinnell College, where they edited essays for a weekly editorial website. Emily also served as a Senior Interviewer and Tour Guide, conducting interviews with prospective students and presenting information sessions.

At The National Institutes of Health from 2015 to 2017, Emily worked as a Biomedical Research Scientist focusing on neurology and immunology. Their research involved investigating DNA damage response and innate immunity in colon cancer cells, as well as studying cholesterol levels and immune responses in patients with Smith-Lemli-Opitz syndrome. Additionally, they conducted research on active transport across the blood-brain barrier.

Emily also had experience working as a Scientific Writer at the NIH Office of Communications & Public Liaison from 2015 to 2017, where they wrote press releases and research summaries.

Emily then joined Princeton University in 2017 as a Research Scientist specializing in Molecular Biology and Immunology. Their work involved using molecular biology, bioengineering, and biochemistry techniques to study cytokine signaling, host-virus interactions, and interferon production. Emily also identified regions within immune receptors that can be modulated to tune host response against RNA viruses.

During their time at Princeton, Emily also worked as a Senior Head Writing Fellow at the Princeton University Writing Center from 2018 to 2022. In this role, they provided consultations on academic and professional writing, including research papers, grant proposals, and journal articles.

Currently, Emily is working as an Associate Medical Writer at The Curry Rockefeller Group, LLC since 2023.

Emily Mesev, PhD, obtained their Bachelor's degree from Grinnell College from 2011 to 2015. During their undergraduate studies, they pursued a double major in Biological Chemistry (honors) and English (honors). Following that, they joined Princeton University in 2017 to further their education in the field of Molecular Biology. At Princeton, they completed their Master's degree from 2017 to 2019. Emily Mesev continued their studies at Princeton University and is expected to graduate in 2023 with a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Molecular Biology.
