Deputy Executive Director, Climate Action, Sustainability And Resiliency at City and County of Denver

Jonathan Wachtel serves as the Deputy Executive Director for Climate Action, Sustainability, and Resiliency with the City and County of Denver since October 2024. Previously, Jonathan was the Community Sustainability, Climate, and Zero Waste Manager for the City of Lakewood from August 2006 to October 2024, where responsibilities included managing the Sustainability Division, overseeing the implementation of the Sustainability Plan, and collaborating with regional sustainability stakeholders. Jonathan also held the role of Sustainability Planner, focusing on project management and land use consistency with sustainability goals. Earlier positions included biological technician with the US Forest Service and various roles in conservation and management. Jonathan holds a Master's degree in Urban and Regional Planning from the University of Colorado Denver and a Bachelor of Science degree in Natural Resources Recreation and Tourism from Colorado State University, along with training from Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health.
