Maria Vasquez-Aguilar has a diverse range of work experience. Maria started their career as a Community Development Worker at Voluntary Action Sheffield from September 2005 to January 2007. Maria then worked as a Youth Development Worker at YOUTH ASSOCIATION SOUTH YORKSHIRE from February 2007 to August 2007. Maria subsequently joined Northern College for Adults as a Tutor Organiser from September 2007 to August 2009. Following this, they worked at Greenwich Community College as a Tutor, teaching subjects like Government & Politics and Citizenship from September 2009 to June 2012. In 2012, they joined City Lit as the Head of Community Partnerships and Tutor, and their current role is ongoing. Additionally, in 2017, Maria began working as a PHD Candidate at the University of Sheffield History Department, studying the political activism of Chilean refugees in the UK.

Maria Vasquez-Aguilar holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Politics from London South Bank University, obtained in 1997. Maria later pursued a Masters degree in Research Methods in Politics and International Relations from The University of Sheffield, which they completed in 2006. Additionally, they completed a PGCE in the Post 16 sector from Sheffield Hallam University in 2007.
