Deontae Elder

Deontae Elder has a diverse work experience in the transportation industry. Deontae currently holds the position of Transportation Engineer/Project Manager at the City of Bellevue, Washington, starting in June 2023. Prior to that, they worked as a Transportation Engineer at the Washington State Department of Transportation from July 2022 to June 2023. Deontae also served as a Transportation Project Manager at the City of Tukwila from February 2022 to July 2022, where they oversaw the traffic calming operation and overlay program, collaborating with the city and public on traffic-related needs.

Deontae's earlier experience includes working as a Transportation Engineer at the Washington State Department of Transportation from September 2017 to January 2022. In this role, they demonstrated enthusiasm as a Civil Engineer with 4+ years of experience, showcasing their attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and excellent teamwork skills. Deontae has a clear understanding of design and construction transportation processes and has received training in various transportation and safety-related courses.

Before their transportation career, Deontae gained valuable skills as a Student Manager at University Dining Services from August 2012 to May 2017. This experience allowed him to develop their leadership, communication, teamwork, and customer service skills, which they believe will contribute to their success in their engineering career.

Deontae Elder attended Washington State University from 2012 to 2017, majoring in Civil Engineering. Deontae obtained several additional certifications throughout their education and career. In October 2020, they became an Engineer In Training through NCEES. Deontae also holds certifications in various areas such as Washington State Traffic Control Flagger (obtained in March 2021), Washington State Traffic Control Supervisor (obtained in March 2020), CPR (obtained in July 2019), Certified Erosion and Sediment Control Lead (obtained in April 2019), Concrete Field Technician (obtained in October 2017), Aggregate Technician (obtained in May 2017), and Nuclear Density Gauge Technician (obtained in May 2017).
