James Dougherty has a diverse work experience across multiple organizations. James began working at FIA Sports Management in 2014 as a Sponsorship & Digital Marketing Intern. In 2016, they joined Triathlon Victoria as a Participation Programs Coordinator and also worked at Wesley College as the Boys 1sts Tennis Head Coach. In 2017, they transitioned to Football Victoria as a Community Competitions Coordinator. Most recently, in 2019, they joined the City of Casey where they held various roles including Community Sport Officer, Community Sport Coordinator, and is currently the Head of Sport & Community Connections.

James Dougherty attended Wesley College from 2004 to 2011, where they completed their high school education and attained a VCE (Victorian Certificate of Education). James then enrolled in the University of North Carolina at Greensboro from 2012 to 2014, where they pursued a Bachelor's degree in Marketing. After that, they attended Deakin University from 2014 to 2016 and obtained a Bachelor of Business with a specialization in Sport Management.
