Raymond Gregory

Raymond Gregory was elected to the City Council in November 2018 as the first representative from the recently-formed District 5, which covers the Panorama and La Pasada neighborhoods, the southern and western portions of the Rio Vista neighborhood, and the Park David Senior Housing complex.

Raymond previously served more than 27 years with the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, before retiring in 2017. During his tenure with the Sheriff’s Department, Raymond held many ranks and worked a variety of locations and functions, including patrol, jails, as a courtroom deputy, an internal affairs investigator, eventually rising to the rank of Assistant Sheriff. Locally, he served as commander of the Sheriff’s Indio Station as it transitioned to its current location in Thermal. As part of that assignment, he served as Chief-of-Police for the cities of Coachella and La Quinta. Previously, he also served as commander of the jail in Indio, and before that as the Asst. Chief for the La Quinta Police Department.

Raymond has lived in the Panorama-area of Cathedral City for over 23 years. He holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree from California State University, San Bernardino, in Administration with a Management concentration, and a Master of Arts degree in Management from the University of Redlands. Raymond is married, and his husband works for a local non-profit organization. He has two grown children, and one grandchild.

Raymond comes to the council as someone with government and business knowledge, but also as someone who has worked closely with others in a team environment to get things done and who believes in doing the right things for the right reasons. Raymond is honored to have garnered the support of many local community organizations and government leaders, who know he always puts the needs of his community first and foremost, seeks to be the voice for the people where needed, and finds balanced compromise wherever possible. Raymond is progressive on social issues and a staunch defender of individual rights and freedoms yet believes government must be careful with how taxpayer dollars are spent. Being business-friendly and maintaining safe and healthy neighborhoods must remain the first priority of the City.
