Thomas Yu serves as the City Attorney for the City of Champaign, having held this position since February 2017. In this role, Thomas provides legal counsel to various departments, focusing on litigation, workers compensation, risk management, and land use, among other areas. Prior to this, Thomas worked as an Associate Attorney at Thomas, Mamer & Haughey, LLP, specializing in civil rights and medical malpractice litigation. Additional experience includes serving as General Counsel for Rotec Industries Inc., where legal risk management and corporate compliance were primary responsibilities, and as a Senior Associate at Jeep & Blazer, LLC, representing government and private entities in regulatory compliance and litigation. Thomas began a legal career as an Assistant State's Attorney in Kane County, leading prosecutions in complex felony cases. Thomas holds a Doctor of Law degree from Northern Illinois University and a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.
