Benjamin Fu has a diverse work experience spanning multiple companies and roles. Benjamin started their career as an Economic Development Intern at the Greater Dallas Chamber of Commerce in 1994. From there, they worked as an Architectural Draftsman at Pacific Coast Architects in 1997, followed by a design internship at Chong Partners Architecture later that year. In 1999, they worked as a Job Captain at McCall Design Group.

In 2001, Benjamin joined the City and County of San Francisco as an Associate Planner, eventually progressing to Senior Planner and Planner Supervisor roles within the Planning Department. Benjamin held these positions until 2014 when they became the Planning Manager in the Economic and Community Development Department at the City of Rocklin.

In 2016, Benjamin joined the City of Cupertino as an Assistant Director of the Community Development Department. Benjamin was later promoted to the position of Director, responsible for leading and managing various divisions within the department.
