Carl Stearns

Carl Stearns, PLS, GISP, currently serves as the Business Systems Administrator for Public Works GIS at the City of Durham, leading a team focused on water, sewer, and reuse data to optimize operations and asset management. With a solid background in GIS management, Carl previously held the position of GIS Manager at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where responsibilities included managing an enterprise geodatabase and delivering high-quality utility data. Prior experience includes GIS roles at Dude Solutions and the City of Raleigh, focusing on managing GIS data and mapping for utility services. Carl began a GIS career at the City of Durham as a GIS Technician and has significant experience in data collection and accuracy in the electric utility sector. Carl holds a Master of Science in Earth Science from North Carolina Central University and a Bachelor of Arts in Geography and Spanish from Appalachian State University.
